Robert Half is in search for a Controller in the transportation industry. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with relevant regulations. This role will involve managing Accounts Payable and Receivable processes, consolidating systems, reviewing accounting practices, overseeing month-end closing procedures, bank reconciliation, handling 401k administration, maintaining relationships with external partners such as banks and CPAs, and ensuring the accuracy of all financial records.Based in the San Leandro, California area, this opening for a Controller is a permanent position.Responsibilities:Oversee Accounts Payable and Receivable clerks to ensure adherence to procedures and timely payments. Organize payable entries to allocate expenses to the respective terminals.Develop a plan to consolidate Truckload and LTL systems, with a focus on transitioning to the AS400 platform. Train Truckload employees on AS400 usage.Review and adjust Truckload accounting practices as necessary to improve efficiency and accuracy.Oversee month-end closing processes for Accounts Receivable, Sales, and Accounts Payable modules. Prepare and enter General Journals as needed. Review Trial Balance and financial statements.Conduct bank reconciliations for both divisions.Handle 401k enrollments, distributions, and annual filing of Form 5500.Review and reconcile all General Ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.Develop and maintain positive working relationships with bank representatives.Consult with CPA as needed for quarterly compiled statements, year-end results, and tax preparations.
